As the winter of 2025-2026 approaches, once again we are asking for donations to help keep the infrastructure team supplied with fresh ballast.

Fresh ballast is an ongoing need for track maintenance and this winter the estimated requirement is for 20 lorry loads of ballast. That equals around 400 tonnes of fresh ballast.  Ballast is purchased by the lorry load but once again we are asking for donations to buy a single bag of ballast.  A lorry load of ballast is about 40 bags or 20 tonnes and this winter it is likely to cost around £28 per tonne. So a single bag would cost around £14.00.

Please will you help this winter by buying a bag of ballast for £14.00.  For every 40 people who do that we can buy a lorry load of ballast.  If 800 people did that we would have 20 lorry loads.
