The frames are nearly fully stripped of components ahead of being blasted and primed.

Work has also started in removing the driving horn blocks from the frames. The water has got in between the frame and the top portion and resulted in rust forming and pushing them apart about 1/2”. This has caused the frames to deflect above the horn ways. For some reason, some of the class had 4 rivets fitted across the top here but some didn’t and 80064 was one of the unlucky ones. We found the exact same difference between 46447 and 41313. 41313 didn’t have these rivets despite being 2 years younger than 46447.

So the horns are being removed to enable the rust to be cleared out. The frames should return flat and straight themselves with this force from the rust removed.

Attached to the bottom of these driving horns are the frame stays which also need to be removed. The pins at each end have put up a hell of a fight but Dave has succeeded in getting 3 out of the 4 out so far.
