Following a successful funding application, WSRA is pleased to note that new Target Discs have been fitted to the crossing Gates at Williton and Blue Anchor.
A Target Disc is a large red ‘target’ fixed to the faces of the level crossing gates. They are located to face the oncoming road traffic when the gates are closed and to act as a ‘stop’ signal. The gates at Blue Anchor are on a blind corner for traffic approaching from the sea front so good visibility of the red target discs on the gates is a necessity. The Williton gates are closed manually and local traffic is often surprised to find the gates closed so again, good visibility is essential for safety.
The WSRA also supplied new wire mesh for the gates at Blue Anchor earlier this year, helping to preserve the history of the West Somerset Railway and keep the gates in good working order.
